Since Total Life Changes is a health and wellness company, as you might expect, the COVID-19 pandemic presented some unique challenges to our business. Over a year into this global event, I thought I’d offer some reflections on how it’s impacted our business and businesses around the world.

More People Thinking About Health

On one hand, businesses specializing in health and wellness experienced an increased interest in their products and services. Imagine being a hand sanitizer business in 2018! If they only had known . . . !

People, desperate for any advantage against the COVID-19 virus, sought products that could help them feel better. None of the products we sell are a cure or treatment for viruses, of course, but I’m proud to be able to say that we contributed in some small way to helping people feel their best.

It will be interesting, going forward, to see how much consumer focus remains on health and wellness. Maybe we’ll all be carrying hand sanitizer for some time to come.

A Changing Business Climate

At TLC, we invested heavily in remote working to help keep our employees safe, and instituted protocols to keep equipment and common areas even safer than usual (though TLC HQ was never dirty, it’s good to be sure).

We’ve seen other businesses do the same. Beyond masks and doorway temperature checks, businesses are devoting resources to ensuring their surfaces are cleaned regularly, and we still see the suggestion of social distancing in a lot of places.

TLC was forced, for a little while, to re-think our conferences and retreats, important elements of our business and community. We’re starting to get back together, slowly, thankfully, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say things feel a little strange. It’s hard to say if business travel ever will come back to what it was, or how many people will continue working remotely.

People Matter

I think the biggest impact that COVID-19 has had is that we’re thinking about people in a new way. For the most part, it’s a positive change. We care about people a little more deeply, share our concerns a little more frequently. And we miss the people we’ve lost.

Medicine is more political than ever. The way we think about someone wearing a mask says as much about us as it does the mask-wearer, and attitudes have changed over time.

The world can sure be confusing at times, can’t it?

When we’re finally done with COVID-19, I hope we’ve learned something. I hope we’ve learned to appreciate the gift every day can be, and that we should take care of ourselves and each other. I’ve missed the countless moments that the pandemic stole from us.

Let’s agree to do our part to keep everyone happy and healthy.
